Before the game begins, players must contribute to the pot. The first player to bet is said to “bet.” Another player to bet is said to “call,” while the player who raises more than the previous bettor is said to “raise.” A player who checks does not bet and is not required to participate in the betting phase.<\/p>\n
Poker can be played with any number of players, but six to eight players is ideal. The goal of the game is to win the pot, which is a total of all the players’ bets on the board at any given time. To win the pot, a player must have the best poker hand or make a bet that no other player calls.<\/p>\n
